05:19 pm - In Portland - The Liar's Club - excellent and impressive theater
Last week, teaotter and I went to see a truly excellent play – The Liar's Club. Info about this production is available on the Brooklyn Bay website. It consists of 5 one-person vignettes, each different, each wonderful, and each (in a thematic sense) building on the last. It contains both truly amazing acting and some absolutely stunning pieces of physical theater. Also, since most Portlanders of my f-list are there because of an interest in things occult, it is worth going to as an example of some of the magical power of theater – despite (to my knowledge) no one involved in the production being at all into metaphysics or the occult. As I have mentioned before, theater can contain powerful magic, since both theater and magical practice involve (at least from my PoV) many of the same mindset and practices. Matt Haynes is a friend of mine and does an absolutely stunning job in the third vignette – I've known him for several years and this is by far the best work I've seen him do yet. In any case, it's brilliant and well worth seeing, and contains moments of both surprise and wonder.
