07:48 pm - New TV reviews: Pushing Daisies
I've never seen a show that I would have described as appallingly Tim Burtonesque, especially since I quite like most of Tim Burton's films, but Pushing Daisies is just such a show. It's well made, but also an exceptionally particular sort of show. If you like the idea of a TV show that has the quirky look of Edward Scissorhands, but with both the visuals and tone of that film turned up to an almost unbelievable degree, it's definitely for you. For me, not so much. I'm not certain that I've ever seen anything quite so stylized, and I'm not a fan of that level of stylization of any sort and also have trouble with the lack of internal consistency that is found in such heavily genre'd works.

I've never seen either, and to me it seemed astoundingly like a more extreme version of Tim Burton

Burtonesque makes sense; somewhat similar to my "Seussian". It works very well for me (then again, I also loved Wonderfalls, and that seemed to be a very specific taste, too), but it didn't work for my folks, either, when I talked to them about it.
