|12:48 am - Excellent article on cities|
For anyone who loves cities, and for people who are suspicious of them, here's an excellent British article titled: What have cities ever done for us?. While I don't agree that limits on city growth is bad, especially since in many places (like Portland) these limits largely increase urban density (which is in all important ways a good thing) rather than limiting total population. However, I definitely agree with the rest of the article, including the author's perfectly reasonable objections to having cities fund and subsidize rural areas. In any case, the article presents a number of compelling social and environmental reasons why living in cities is a very good thing indeed.
