03:38 pm - Research on contact lens displays
In all manner of SF, the next technological step after display glasses like those that will soon be on sale are contact-lens displays. So, with us being deep in the Acceleration, it's hardly surprising that work is already underway to create them. I'm betting we'll see the first ones in less than a decade, assuming someone doesn't perfect some sort of direct neural sensory interface before then. So it goes...

I would much prefer contact lens displays to a neural interface. The latter would be rather difficult to upgrade until we get to some seriously advanced levels of technology.

Y'know, I see a problem with that for those of us who already use contacts...

Why? I don't see any reason you couldn't make prescription contacts with displays in them as easily as you could any other sort.

Kinda depends on how the technology works out. it will probably present a semi-significant problem, especially in dealing with aspherical or gods forbid toroidal contacts. There'll be at least a year of lag between the non-prescription and prescription ones, and probably another year before stuff like toroidal are available. But that's just speculation; nothing will really be known until they've at least got working models.
