12:57 am - Youthful Joy and fun media
I took today off work, since I just finished on project very late last night and start another tomorrow. So, I spent a lot of time watching Doctor Who are related things. teaotter and got my friend Daire (xtricks) interested in Torchwood over the weekend and loaned him our DVDs, from there he's now gotten into New Doctor Who and is watching that now (see his lj for links to two very nice pieces of Jack/Ianto slash fiction he wrote over the weekend). So, he came over for dinner and to watch the latest episode of Torchwood, which was again sad, but quite good. I love the show, but could use more episodes that are not sad.

Other than that, I read some comics and watched an old third doctor (played by the wonderful Jon Pertwee) episode, The Mutants. I remember being 12 years old and watching that series on TV, I also remember seeing only the first 5 of the 6 episodes, because the Watergate hearings were on TV, and those pre-empted Doctor Who & The Avengers for several months. As a result, I never got to see the final episode of that series - until now. I just watched all 6 episodes, and other than the rather bad special effects, it was a fun episode with nifty aliens and an oppressive colonial government. It was well worth seeing, and The Doctor wore an absolutely wonderful rust and peach colored ascot with his white ruffle shirt and red velvet jacket.

I have always loved the third doctor. Tom Baker was "my doctor" thanks to the local PBS affiliate, but I loved Pertwee's outfits, his car, his voice, everything. The stories were great, too. Doctor Who has been giving me so much joy for most of my life.

I had actually already read both of those TW fics - very good indeed!
