01:42 am - My brain is tired, but wonderfully so
shadowmorphic visited teaotter this weekend (arriving late Thursday, and leaving this afternoon). Neither of us knew her all that well previously, but we liked her and she was definitely someone we wished to get to know better. We definitely did, and I am please to have gotten to know someone this amazing somewhat better.

The weekend consisted largely of conversations with Jade (as well as many hugs) both at home and wandering over various interesting sections of our neighborhood and downtown, including the lovely Portland Classical Chinese Garden and several restaurants. I have previously mentioned my talent at rapidly and intensively getting to know people, but I have never before used it on someone who had precisely the same talent and who was using it as intensively and with as much skill as I was.

This process became especially intensive on Friday night, when Becca went to bed on Friday around 1:00 AM. Jade and I stayed up until a bit after 4:00 AM, talking on a level and intensity (both mentally and energetically) that I have rarely done. It was absolutely glorious, exhilarating, and exhausting. Near the end and afterwards, it felt rather like I was exceedingly the bandwidth of my brain. I slept restlessly that night and Saturday night we all went to be earlier and I had the level of constant and intensive dreams that signal that I'm processing quite a lot of information.

In thinking a bit more about these sorts of experiences, they are addictive, marvelous, but also somewhat illusory, since no matter how intensive and high-bandwidth the interaction is, a few hours or even a couple of days is insufficient to truly begin to know someone in any depth, but it is most definitely a wonderful method of making the first steps in this direction. For me, there is quite literally nothing as important (by a large amount) than friends that I can connect to on a significant level.

Such experiences with people who I only see for a short is amazing, but also in some ways difficult, because a connection is made that cannot be fully reconnected until I next see the person again. Our age of rapid travel, but little time is simultaneously wonderful and hard. Once again, I am again reminded how many of my favorite people live so far away, but being reminded of this by gaining a new addition to the list of favorite people is very far from a bad thing.

In any case, I'm very much looking forward to Crossing the Thresholds this year (we're not going to Walking the Thresholds, because it is only a few days after amberite arrives home from China.

Your connection with Jade sounds like how I met foxgrrl and whimsywanderer.

Aye, she's quite extraordinary :)

Good to hear you'll be making CTT, I was wondering when we might see you out these parts next.

Good for you, Jade's good people :) I've spent a few hours talking with her myself. Kinda sucks that we won't see you till the fall, but some things take priority :)

I don't think that's quite true. I can think of one notable exception. :-D
