|01:30 am - Moved (more or less)|
Today, we moved. We rented a truck and hired a pair of movers. They were fast and highly efficient (if somewhat expensive), and we'd used the same company when we moved to this place. However, they seemed to be unfriendly and in a generally bad mood. Then, suddenly and completely out of the blue, when the truck was around half full (moving required two full loads with the truck), one of them announced that there was too much cat hair and his allergies were acting up, then they apologized and left, saying we didn't owe them anything, but leaving us utterly in the lurch. At this point, teaotter called our friend Aaron, and then lupagreenwolf & teriel (who lived upstairs) to come help and then Lupa and Taylor got three other people (including both innowen, and silverback2001). Meanwhile, amberite borrowed Lupa's computer, got on craigslist and found another pair of movers who could come over in 45 minutes. So, we finished loading the truck, drove it over, and the movers showed up, and the movers and our friends helped unload it. These movers were significantly less efficient (Aaron did most of the organizing), but were friendly, very hardworking, and did a generally excellent job for 2/3s the price we would have owed the first movers. Odd, annoying, but it all worked. At this point, we have moved most of our stuff and everything heavy. However, we have a truly impressive amount of junk (quite literally, we're throwing most of it away) in the basement to get rid of, while we also need to move the fridge contents and many of the small fragile items over to this place. Then, we clean... It will definitely be busy between now and July 30th (when we need to be out) We also have a truly epic amount of unpacking to do. mostly books - lots, and lots of books. In any case, we have phone service already (with the same phone number), cable will be hooked up in two days, but we won't have DSL until early next week. By that time, we should be mostly unpacked and far more settled. In any case, blessings to everyone who helped us.
Current Mood: exhausted
I'm glad things worked out. There always has to be that one horrible hitch in the move, doesn't there?
If there weren't a matter of getting security deposit and whatnot back, I'd be inclined to not clean the place. After all, they weren't particularly polite about booting you. I hope they give you your whole deposit back, though.
*HUGS* Let me know if you want a moment to talk this week. Otherwise I'll catch you later. Good luck!!!

I think I'll be too busy and too exhausted to talk this week, but I'd definitely appreciate a call early next week. [[[*HUGS*]]]
glad it worked out, sorry about all the frustration

Egad, man. In the LARP that is your life, you have a defective GM. :)
Best wishes on settling in, though.
Egad! Well, I'm glad it worked out in the end. More or less. Sort of. But...jeez!

If these jerks evicted you for no reason, what's to stop them from doing the same to teriel
The no-cause eviction law that allowed them to do this needs to be fought and struck from the books.
Believe me, we're going to be a lot more vigilant from here on out *sigh* And we really like this place, too.
Congratulations on getting through the move!!!
