02:27 pm - Departure & arrival
Departure: Today, Aaron left for his first of two years of getting an MFA at Cal Arts in Valencia CA. Aaron has found that doing the academic work he wants to do requires an MFA and not just the MA he currently has. Aaron has been traveling alot over the last 6 years and now I won't see him until December. Thankfully, I have unlimited long distance, supplemented by Skype with a webcam. We've been getting a good bit closer again and I'll really miss him.

Arrival: After much research, I got myself an Nokia n810. It arrived today and is currently charging, after which I'll update the OS and start installing all manner of nifty apps on it. It's a lovely device and a truly vast improvement over my current PDA.
Current Mood: tiredtired

Keep us updated on the Nokia. I used a borrowed eee in Japan, which was interesting. A half pound tablet is still tempting, but I don't know how it is in practice. Mmm, Windows or Linux on yours?

Linux (an odd version called Maemo). I've very impressed with it, the browser + keyboard combo is (to me at least) significantly better than an ipod touch. Using it requires a mixture of d-pad, stylus, and fingers, which is far less elegant than an ipod Touch, but the overall functionality is better, and the screen is amazing. I also managed to install the Palm emulator and sync my several hundred memos and contacts onto it.

Previously I was using a Sony Clie PEG-UX50, which is about as bit and only 1.5 ounces lighter, so I'm used to big heavy pocket-gadgets.
