|01:31 am - Free At Last|
Yesterday at 5:00 AM, I finished the last part of the monster assignment I have been working on for the last two months (66,000 words, a new record for me, and one that I have absolutely no interest in surpassing). I now have 74,000 words to write it 3 months, which is far more sane.
In other news, when it came down to actually making an offer on the house built in 1896, my parents refused to go along, in large part because they worried about possible problems. I was willing to leave that for the home inspection, but given that I thought there was easily a 50% chance that we wouldn't want it after the inspection, I'm annoyed by their decision, but can understand it. Tomorrow, we are making an offer on the only other place we've seen that we like. The location is less ideal – it's actually a lovely location, on the NE corner of Ladd's Addition that's a townhouse (actually, half a side-by-side duplex that was built in 1956, and massively renovated and updated in 2008). It's a bit far from the shops we like around 28th and East Burnside, but only about half the distance from them that we are now, and there is no shortage of lovely shops around this location. It's a bit far for an easy walk to see Aaron and Daire, but once again around half the distance that it is now, and a far more pleasant walk at that. Also, they'll be moving in no more than 2 years, so this is a short-term problem. The house is only 2 bedrooms, but that basement (which is one large finished room, with pillars that can be used to divide it up) can be very easily transformed into two additional bedroom/offices a laundry room, a large storage space, and so we can definitely make it work (especially since, we'll try to have that done before we move in). In short, in a bit over a month, we should be homeowners.
Today, I talked with my dear and wonderful friend shadowmorphic on the phone, cooked a lovely dinner, cuddled with teaotter & amberite, and read around a dozen comic books. Tomorrow, I'll need to start work on my next project, but I won't be nearly as rushed. Life is good.
Current Mood: pleased
Congratulations! Right now I'm enjoying your work on Scroll of Fallen Races....

*sigh* I'm glad you like it - I still haven't seen it, my comp copies of that book still haven't arrived :(

Congratulations on the project! And good luck on housesnagging.
I read that as house nagging :D
Rock on! Nice to know that things CAN work out :)
I hope it works out well. Zillow.com failed me on this one, I can't find any half duplexes in NE Ladd's Addition (or even nearby) on there.

It's at 1926 S.E. Hemlock.
So is the other half of the duplex up for sale too? Do you know if it is owner occupied or is it rented?

There are actually 4 units in the complex. They were all massively renovated and put up for sale in August. One sold immediately, then the bottom fell out of the US economy. Since that time one sold (in November), one is being rented out, and we're snagging the last unit (which the owner would have rented out in early February if it didn't sell).
So is it a co-op, or does it have a condo association, or how is that sort of thing structured? Have you met any of the other owners? That seems like something I'd want to do before buying into a split building.

It's a condo association with 56 pages of bylaws written by the people who converted the housing into condos and that we can change. So far, we have one unit rented (we met the people and they seemed nice) one unit (next to us) sold, and one where it won't close until the end of January, and so we have no idea what those people are like.
Cool! How much do the places rent for? Is it within the range where anyone you are friends with would be able to move in next door (I guess not everyone we know is poor)?

I have absolutely no idea. The one rental unit is currently rented. However, when it goes up for rent, I'll likely find out.
