04:24 pm - Amazing foreign commercial & national limits
The long era of malicious idiocy started by Ronald Reagan and his handlers in 1980s ended a few months ago, but there is still so much to do to make the US a nation that is something other than a vile shambling mess. Examples of what we could be exist all across the world. One I saw today that touched me was this: 1 minute Argentinean TV commercial by a bank. Argentina isn't an egalitarian paradise - until 25 years go it was ruled by monsters who killed and tortured 10s of thousands of their own citizens and today it's a moderately prosperous nation with a good but non-exceptional government, and yet this commercial showed on Argentinian television.

I cannot imagine something like this appearing on US TV, and that's not just sad it's ludicrous and wrong. Seeing this reaffirmed my belief that we don't want anything remotely like compromise in the Culture War going on in the US, we want total and complete victory over the racists, homophobes, social conservatives, and proponents of "family values". There is no reason beyond the blind bigotry of a small percentage of the US population (who have had far too much power for far too long) preventing similar messages from being shown in the US.

What a nice commercial. I don't think that would happen here in the US. I think they would f.. it up, trying to make it cool or modern. It was nicely done, very touching. I have a girlfriend from Argentina and you are correct. The poor are poor and the rich are rich, no middle ground.

Thank you for sharing that clip.

I like the Pepsi ad that shows a man passing up two conventionally beautiful women in favor of a man. The guy's friends are freaking out, but I still found that ad to be gay-friendly.

And I am doing my part by subverting the American Family Association. I got on its mailing lists and get the little action alerts every week. I then use their own programs and forms to send the opposite message to the President and my congresscritter that the AFA wants me to send. I have used their program to thank Obama for supporting LGBT rights and called Pepsi and thanked them for their support.

Wow. Just ... wow. Don't be discouraged. There *will* be such commercials here. There will.

What a powerful message. I don' think we'd see that here in Canada at the moment with who we (still) have in power...
