01:24 am - Easy proof of (lack of) quality
I have only the most passing familiarity with the Stargate steries - I saw the original movie, and watched two episodes of the original series and one of Stargate: Atlantis - which clearly showed me that both were too fluffy and bad for me to have any interest in watching. So, during the BSG finale, I see an ad about a new Stargate series - Stargate Universe and briefly wonder if this one will be any better. A quick look at the wikipedia page was all I needed to convince me that it will be unwatchable - 10 characters are listed. Only 3 are female, and two are young, unlike the male cast where there seems a fairly equal mixture of old and young characters. That level of sex ratio in what will presumably be an ensemble cast show is simply no longer acceptable, especially with the added age dynamic. Ick. I miss The Dresden Files series, and continue to enjoy The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Burn Notice, and In Plain Sight - at least moronic levels of sexism are no longer universal among geeky action shows.

Most definitely. It's very rare to see a show that smart, funny, and non-sexist, with such nifty characters.

Which is funny, because that make-up will pretty much be ideal for the slash fandom (majorly female) who have been major consumers of both Stargate series.

The ideal slash show? Almost all make (with varied looks and age groups to allow for simplistic contrast 'older man', dark haired man etc), few POCs and very few women, particularly ones who could be competetion in authority or romantic pairings but act as foils to get the boys of choice together via jealousy or competing over her.

Gag. Sounds like something pukey that belongs on the Lifetime Network.

I liked SG-1. It could be silly, but it had nice plotting, funny dialogue, great aesthetics, and the occasional nod to real science, being relatively 'hard' by TV standards.

For Universe, I note the page says there'll be 3 deaths in the pilot and a suicide by episode 6. The ratio might get evened out.
