Of all the CJ Cherryh books, why Serpent's Reach? Not that it's not a good book, but why that one in particular?

It's the first of her Alliance Union books from the Union PoV that I read, also I've a weakness for both well done aliens & immortal protagonists.

I suspect that you might like Benford's Center of the Galaxy series (Across the Sea of Suns is the 2nd of these), and Serpent's Reach. I suspect the rest aren't your sort of thing.
