12:31 pm - Augmented Reality Arrives
I've been waiting for the introduction of augmented reality displays, and here's one of them, which should be in the US sometime this year. It's limited, a bit clunky, and clearly a first generation system, but I'm betting a great many people will be regularly using AR in 3 years, and within 5 years many of us will consider it to be indispensable.

And with developments like this, maybe we'll process that software internally someday.

I find it curious that the demonstration video doesn't say anything about user-generated content. The app seems to be pulling information from Google Maps, which already has plenty of different map layers one could tap into in addition to the five company-made layers mentioned. For instance, I'd love to combine an application such as that one with this realtime feed on Helsinki bus and tram locations.

Well, doesn't really matter if they provide such an opportunity or not. I expect the option for user-generated contented to be hacked into the application soon enough, or failing that, an open source clone becoming available as soon as that thing starts to gather more users.

Now just to wait for the version projecting the thing directly to my glasses. (Or my visual cortex...)
