|12:35 am - Brilliant post about a problematic issue|
A few days ago, a big new SF anthology was announced – The Mammoth Book of Mindblowing SF, featuring 21 stories, each by a different and well known white male author. There's been a fair amount of controversy surrounding this book, much of which was caused by a particularly incendiary and ludicrously stupid post by SF author Paul Di Filippo in the comments to the announcement.
As a lovely antidote to the venom going around on all sides of this, my impressively wise and sensible friend bruceb made an excellent post about this issue, which clearly shows how diversity in authors is not merely a question of fairness and equality, but how embracing this diversity is also an excellent way of obtaining better fiction.
