|03:18 am - Pandemonium - A Wonderful Novel|
I just finished Pandemonium by Daryl Gregory, which as I mentioned in this post, its been nominated for a World Fantasy Award. It's utterly brilliant. Kage Baker's The House of the Stag is a fine book, but not a brilliant one, and this one is. It's an absolutely amazing mixture of pop-culture, alternate history, and mystical oddness, mixed in with moments of humor, insight, and tension. Best of all (at least from my PoV) it lies on the borderline between urban fantasy and SF (which is always an interesting locale), and is in no way horror. Also, one of the characters is Philip K. Dick, who is possessed by one of his own characters. I highly recommend it. The author also has another novel coming out in November, the first chapter is linked to the page I linked to and also looks to be interesting, and likely quite excellent.
