01:32 am - Becca & Liang Gong
teaotter regularly amazes and impresses me, and she did so again tonight. She's been having some upper back pain recently, and so I finally got around to teaching her some of the liang gong exercises (the ones that I do are slightly different from the ones depicted here) that I learned back when I was studying Tai Chi, and which I do at least every other evening before I go to sleep. I have essentially never done these when she's around and have never deliberately shown them to her before. It's a set of 18 separate exercises and I showed her the first 8 (which work on the neck, shoulders, and upper back).

I showed her last night, and she did them on her own tonight. As she did them, she paid attention to the energy flows and later explained a unity in them that I never notices Also, after she finished, she told me that she felt somewhat out of balance and proceeded to do four or five more exercises to help this, most of which were either identical to or other exercises that were close to the next exercises in the liang gong set. Becca has a sense of her body and her movements that I find amazing and that I envy. I am excellent with energy work, but mostly via visualizations. I can (and often do) combine this with movement, but combining movement and energy work is for me always a process of combining the physical with the metaphysical – for Becca it's the most obvious way of doing something. I am again very impressed at her intuitive understanding of liang gong.

That is impressive. Does she have a background in another form of energy work that would lend to the intuition?

Most definitely. She's done lots of bodywork (mostly feldenkrais) as well as a great deal of self-taught metaphysical work.

It's gotta be nice to be able to do that. I have a heck of a time picking up new forms. It's very much...first I learn the physical motions, *then* I figure out what's going on energywise.
