02:47 am - Amazing Software, Disturbing Robots, & My Birthday
Here's a program that can take a single photo and turn it into a 3D morphable face. My first thought was that the potential for fanvids and fandom photo-manipulations is simply incredible. I expect this to be a commercial product on home PCs in no more than 5 years. Of course, it will also mean that no believing what you see on the internet will be an even stronger recommendation than it already is. In any case, fascinating stuff.

And now, more about robots. Here's an interestingly uncanny valley video of two robots kissing. Full automated sexbots are no at all far in the future, and people falling in love with their (completely non-sentient) robot will follow soon thereafter. The future is clearly going to be strange, disturbing, amazing, impressive, and (IMHO at least) wonderful. I'm very much looking forward to what the next 15 years brings and I have trouble imagining what comes much after that.

In any case, it's a good time more me to think about the future, today is my birthday. Blessings to all.

Those were realistic but you could still tell they were artificial. They already have ones that are a little hard to distinguish from the crowd unless you're looking for it...

Not sure how much AI is involved, but they're making progress on the realism.

Happy birthday!

"We meant 'stronger' here, right?"
"What's it say?"
"'I'm proud to report that our country is stranger than it was a year ago.'"
"That's a typo."
"It could go either way."

Among the embarrassing jobs of the future will be “technician who unsticks sexbots who found each other and got into a positive-feedback loop”.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday!

And re: the robots...isn't it interesting that any one of these seemingly little things could be looked on later as a watershed in history. I don't see people falling in love with non-sentient objects, though. Stories from ancient Greece notwithstanding.
