05:55 pm - This is how the world changes [Notes on the Acceleration]
We already have brainwave interfaces for videogames, and a year ago, researchers in Japan managed to read neural output of visual information, and progress on this front is definitely continuing. Progress on this front is slow, but also steady, and I don't expect anything like detailed readouts of visual imagery or words for between 10 & 15 years. A few years after that, I'd expect some sort of neural readout headband or whatever to become a common peripheral for at least some uses, especially mobile computing. Combine that with contact lens displays, which are currently under development, and some earbuds, and you have something completely new in terms of how people interact with both information and each other. In addition to effectively effortless internet searches, you could literally show someone what you are thinking about. All of this is quite amazing, and I expect to see the first versions in perhaps 15 years.

I love living in the future, even when it frightens me.

I'll line up for beta-testing! Hell, I'll do alpha testing.
