|03:00 pm - Impressive political speeches|
Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson reads the names of the people who have died due to lack of health insurance in every Republican-controlled district in the US. Read this article and watch the video clips. I'd like to see exerpts from this on every news broadcast in the US. This is politics as it should be. Wow.
Current Mood: impressed
Spiffy. It recently came to my attention that democrats, in general are concerned about the outcome, whereas the republicans care more about the process of any given thing.
There is no single, good answer for the health care system aside from the idea that we do not need to put a bandage on a broken system and hope it will do the job of a splint... the good news is that I feel the urge to give my $0.02 on a buncha issues, but will only be able to when I set time aside to do it (right now i'm having too much fun with other things)....
Republicans are concerned about the process when being concerned about the process favors them.
States' rights? Overboard when the Supreme Court decided Bush vs. Gore, or when Oregon opted for assisted suicide, or in medical marijuana cases. Literal reading of the Constitution? Hard to find support for the war on drugs in that.

Well said - unrepentant hypocrisy seems to be a core Republican value these days.
You should check out the various clips on Grayson's Youtube channel. He consistently calls people out on the House floor, and really stands up for what he believes in. He's brought me to tears at least twice now. He's an exemplary legislator.
We can only hope that they take Grayson seriously and try to make some changes for the better. He hit the nail squarely on the head.
