11:46 pm - Today is officially fired
Alice's cat Batty looked sick this evening, so we took him into the emergency vet. He'd been looking a bit thinner than usual over the last couple of weeks. I assumed that since he's 10, he had one of the various middle-aged cat problems and we were taking him into the vet this weekend. Instead, his kidneys are failing. At best, he has a couple of months, and he may have just a few days left, it all depends on whether or not he responds to the fluids and potassium supplements. I've never had a cat go from healthy to dying this fast, and especially not one who is only 10. This is deeply sucky.

Best wishes for Batty (and the rest of your family).

I'm so sorry; it's always worst when it's sudden like that. I hope his remaining time is as healthy as possible

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm sending good thoughts Batty's way. I will hold out hope for a longer reprieve; our cat Ocras got the kidney death sentence a year and a half ago when he was down to 7 pounds, and he's still with us (although steadily creakier) and back up to his fightin' weight of 11. May your experience be similar; or, at least, may you make the most of what you have.

Okay, what the hell is going on with Portland this week? This makes three posts in a row on my friends list from Portlanders complaining of (completely different) bizarre accidents, deaths and/or drama. (All of which have at least tangentially involved cats.)

Seriously, someone out there needs to organize a cleansing ritual for the city or something.

My condolences. I hope modern medicine can keep him purring to the end.

diet and medication, plus lots of cat cuddling seem to help. I got another year with my Newt after his diagnosis.

Poor cat. I wish him a good journey, and I am sorry for your bad news.
