Josie likes to sit on my chest and purr while I pet her. This is wonderful and good, except when she tries something like without any warning reaching up to bite (thankfully not at all hard) my forehead. I expect that this bite was affectionate, but I'm not too keen on that sort of affection.

Flash is also doing well, he's fine with being petted, and I'm working on picking him up. If he thinks I'm going to try it, he runs away, but I picked him up a few hours ago. I've been picking him up every few days and holding him for a minute or two, or until he struggles, and letting him down. Today, I simply continued to hold him until he struggled. After 5 minutes or so, I loosened my hold so he could have gotten away without any struggle at all, and he remained for a few minutes. I don't know if this was acceptance, fear, or the beginnings of enjoyment, but it's progress. Flash is a remarkably social cat, he enjoys being with other cats, and he also often prefers being in the same room with the two-footers, sitting on the bed with us, just out of reach.

Sulpher is so weird in that she actually doesn't mind being picked up. On the other hand, she doesn't quite get the distinction between playing and biting/scratching for serious. So I stuck my hand into this box, not that that was a smart thing to do, and I have a gash on my finger now...
