03:48 am - An Impressive and Informative Prank Call
As some of you may have heard, transcripts of a prank phone call between Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Ian Murphy, editor of a webzine called Buffalo Beast, where the editor pretended to be David Koch of the famed Koch Brothers - note, that the Koch Brothers are ultra-rich libertarians who are essentially the money behind the entire tea-bagger movement. For more info on the details of the conversation, here's an excellent short article from the Washington Post.

In any case, I'm both impressed, and very pleased – since Walker has admitted that the recording is actually of him, he's publicly admitted to wanting to bust unions and is not remotely to be trusted, and hopefully that will be enough to further fuel opposition. In any case, this was good journalism is all about, and it's wonderful to see it both happening and for the story to get picked up by major newspapers and the rest of the mass media.
Current Mood: pleasedpleased

Ezra Klein had a good point: it also shows that at a time when state senators can’t get through to talk to the governor, a guy pretending to be David Koch can. It shows his utter disinterest in anything resembling negotiation— this is a power grab, pure and simple. My guess is that the Democrats will be trying to hold out until enough recall petitions are circulating that the other GOP representatives in Wisconsin are starting to feel threatened.

The fact that he said that any attempt to negotiate with the state senators would be a trick also won't help him much.
