03:11 pm - A Puzzling Example of Inefficiency
Late last night, my internet service stopped working. When I called them up, I found that there was no longer an obvious menu option for checking network outages. On the positive side, I ended up talking with a tech support person less than a minute after I picked up the phone. However, while helpful, I was on the phone for almost an hour and all he managed to do was determine that the problem was not at my end. Then, he decided to check if there was a local outage, and there was (affecting much of Portland). Checking that first seems like it would have saved us both quite a bit of trouble.

I think he had a script he was required to follow. That's why he didn't check to see if there was an outage first.
